Bioplastics Symbol_Alt

One of my other entries for the Cereplast Bioplastics "Make Your Mark" symbol design competition. Coincidentally what eventually became the winner of the competition was markedly similar to this design.

What Are Bioplastics
They're a line of materials made from renewable resources, like algae, corn, etc, that are designed to retain the same characteristics of regular petroleum-based plastics without the negative environmental impact.

Behind the Symbol
This was a conceptual derivative of my other work, where I recognized the potential to expand upon the leaf form I'd originally drawn and use it in way to suggest the leaf was also a cupped hand.
This symbol still encapsulates my idea of something new growing from something natural, but does so in a slightly more simple and plain fashion, and represents the care that comes from choosing bioplastics.
