Creative Logo-2 by TheRyanFord Creative Logo-2 by TheRyanFord
I managed to get a little bit of free time today, and although I had a few things I could tackle I really wanted to re-address the Creative Logo I and $endosage had put together a few weeks back.

A lot of people had some comments about how the old factory idea wasn't working. I think we all knew it wasn't; we just wanted to see how people reacted to it.

Back to today, I recalled a comment somebody made about them thinking about the Creative team more as master craftsmen, and so I began exploring tools that craftsmen used. First I looked at a whittling tool, but I soon found that an illustration of it in a simplified form looked like a screwdriver. So that didn't work. Shortly thereafter I thought about a compass and a paintbrush merged together, and illustrated that idea. It was too complex, so I scrapped the thing and started over using just simple shapes. The end result is what you see here.

The Concept
The idea behind this is quite simple: precision art. It's what we do as designers and creative people. Every piece of art we make is built to serve a purpose, and all of us are very obsessed with pixel perfection. I feel pretty strongly that this logo suits us very well and I'm quite happy with it.

Updated
Tweaked a bit to provide for better balance and a stronger nib.

i believe that you got it right this time, you got a much simpler piece that represents a whole lot more
the factory idea was great but there are just too many industries that use a logo like that , so this beats the old one as far as "original" goes
i think the mark matches the type just great and over time the mark could stand alone with absolutely no problems
i am not shure though that i like how the mark looks next to the type...i feel as there is something missing
i would suggest that you try to put it in a shape that could have the drip effect the factory had, or just a simple shape
i think that could make it a bit stronger

overall i love it :)
nice clean work as ussual

I didn't comment on the previous concept because I felt that everyone was pretty much dead-on with their comments. I've gotta critique this one though to point some of the great things about it.

Firstly, this is much more simple and iconic logo, more of your style. I love the idea of craftsmanship because I always see the design industry as a craft.

The paint brush for creativity and the needle for accuracy is such a great idea. What I like most is the circle which is the best symbol for unity and since this logo is meant to represent a team, it fits well. The idea that the brush and needle joins to the circle all adds up as a great representation of teamwork.

For example, your job as CD is to have pixel perfect vision to lead a team of truly talented & creative people. That is represented well with the symbols used.

That's a great concept. A great comeback.

If the logo was tilted left by say 20 degrees it would rest on the needle point and raise the brush, which will give it some dynamism and would then make it look more like say it was in use and had an action component attached to it. Also the perception of few that it is cropped to the left would then break since the left edge of the logo at this time is very much parallel to the left edge of the art board.
The logo looks great though and love all your other works too. :)

Cool logo. I love the paintbrush at the end. Reminds me of a math teacher I had who had a homemade chalkboard compass. Had a piece of chalk at the end. :D

great, i love it.

i still think the paintbrush head needs to be reduced maybe just by 10 % or thereabouts, it just seems fractionally too big in comparison to the nib. great work though!

Beautiful.

Just one thing: would it be more aesthetically pleasing if the compass needle were the same width as the "leg"?

Thanks for the headsup. I didn't notice anything about it this time. So that must surely mean it's perfect. . . .

I like what you've done with the thickness of the left leg.

I like this version much better. :w00t: Much, MUCH better. The old version made the Creative team seem more like an assembly line (which isn't really known for its creativity or individuality) --- and it wasn't exactly environmentally friendly, either. ;p

This, on the other hand, is much more recognizable as something Creative. Even without the words "Creative" written there, a person could easily glance at this and know it had something to do with artwork, design, and precision.

Still love the color choice. If I may make a suggestion though: Maybe add a paint splash of yellow on it somewhere? Perhaps on the left side? I think that'd help balance it a bit since it's a bit heavy on the bottom-right. It looks like you tried to counter the bottom heaviness by keeping the left leg of the compass on the thick side? A splash of a bright color like Yellow would reduce the need for that, and also speak to the creative individuality of each of the staff members.

However, if you would prefer to avoid the paint splash, I still think it'd be a good idea to add a little more air and light to that paintbrush a bit. Maybe you could draw a few hairs in the paintbrush with white to create the effect of those details being there, but not being there? (lol, does that make sense? xD ...Here, sort of like this person did with the hair of this dancer and the wrinkles in her clothing: [link]). I think that'd give the logo a bit more character, too.

That's just my two-cents though! :#1: All in all, this is such a breath of fresh air in comparison to the first logo. =D (*rimshot*)

Kudos! :w00t:

This version of the Creative logo is easily my favorite. The simplicity of the elements make it easy to for everyone to relate to, and easily distinguishable and iconic. I also like how the compass relates to the idea of the "perfect circle," it reminds me of the story of Giotto di Bondone. I really enjoyed watching this logo evolve, again great job!

The concept of engineer + design is conveyed very well in this logo, and you can pick up on it instantly compared to the factory logo. Great work Ryan.

Ah yes, I like this one better than the initial one with the factory.
It's clean and simple, the font is great, and I think that it communicates better of what you do.
Hmm, maybe the other arm of the compasses could be a pencil?

Nevertheless, It's awesome.

I think this is pretty much spot on. The logo is great, especially the symbolism. I like the chosen colour, and the subtle but stylish gradient is a really nice touch. So is the "ti" ligature, attention to typography always makes me happy. :giggle:

One thing, however, that I think is wrong, is the way the left part of the compass ends; the way the left ends suddenly become completely vertical seemingly without any transition made me think at first that the logo was cut off on the left. I can't help but thinking it looks a bit odd.
