Destructive Spending by TheRyanFord Destructive Spending by TheRyanFord
This is an informative design project in which I worked with the world-famous David Caneso, of the Caneso family fame.

Our goal was to design a poster that informed the public of something. Our focus, for this project, was to do something related to government missile spending and how it effects us taxpayers.

We display 5 of the most common missiles as well as their specs, then outline their costs in several different fashions.
Notice how little an individual pays for the missiles over his/her lifetime. It's less than you probably thought.
So, since it's such a tiny amount, what else could it go for that would be more productive than missiles? These things are outlined on the right-hand side of the design.

In terms of details, this poster is 66" (5 feet, 6 inches) wide, 30" tall. Yes, it's freaking humungous, but we needed it to be large to have effect.

This is not a design set out to tell people how evil the government is. If you read, that you're mistaken. Rather, this is meant to simply question the spending habits of the administration. David and I don't particularly like weaponry, and think it's a waste of money. Don't comment on this letting me know how I've unsheathed the evils of the government, you hipster dufus.

It's funny really and also on a serious note how true this is. When the world could be spendng it's money on more productive things we indirectly are spending it on the things that will most likely lead to our destruction.

Awesome poster! I'm in the middle of a very similar project for uni, so thanks for the inspiration. Been pretty confused as to the different ways of presenting information =)

I really like this piece, it's given some good ideas for something I've been forming in my mind for a wee while concerning the use of cluster munitions.

Definitely fav. :)

I have to agree with most (if not all) of my predecessing commentry. Point is, whatever the message, you did it in a constructive and asthetically appealing manner. Congratulations to you without posting an "You idiots!" sign on the front doors of the White House. Perhaps this might bring a few other problems into intrest of the public eye.

As far as overall artistry, I think this one deserves a perfect 30 out of 30 for display, movement, and elegance. (If you've been watching shows like Dancing with the Stars, you might get my underlying pun.)

All in all, this deserves a favorite addition. Great job, once again. ;)

This is beautifully made! Very clear and powerful.

And.. well.. the message is a truly good one. Can't agree with you more. This is important. You really really should print this in thousands put them up all over the us..

We need more people calling other people hipster dufus.

This piece is brilliant on all fronts. Informative, communicative and aesthetically.
I'm sure you've received similar comments for this, but if this was offered as a print, i would buy it with no hesitation.

Its need not be newspaper persons or channel guys who speak out against the misuse of power. As designers, we can do it in a better way - as you have shown it now. It works great too. Kudos man, for some great work.

Where's the Aerial, Liquid Propellant Fueled Elderly Gentlemen whom sucks up most of the budget via the failing Social Security?

I frankly have no problem paying for the needless deterrant of Nuclear Landbased and Seabased weapons. It keeps China and North Korea from going insane.

I have no problem paying for the Air-to-Air, Anti-Ship, SAM Batteries, and various other products of propelled explosive doom. It keeps my friends and family in Iraq safe.

Kick ass concept though. I could disagree with the ideals, but it's about the art, yes?

I really really like this, Ryan, but there's one thing that bugs me about it. I see what you're doing with it, visually, but ultimately you've got air-to-air missiles following a dotted line into the land-based mushroom cloud. That just sits wrong with the aeronautical geek inside.

Sorry. I didn't mean to nitpick, but I seriously couldn't help it. Seems to me there were two kinds of boys in elementary school - those who learned all about cars and stuff, and those who learned all about aircraft and whatnot. I was in the latter group when I wasn't kicking the crap out of everyone at Chess.
