DeviantART Ad

Description

I was asked by $spyed and $spot to do a quick advertisement for a spot in an upcoming Comic Book magazine. The specs called for the ad to be in grayscale, so I had that to work with.
There was literally no concept to begin with, either. It was kind of like "we need an ad for the site, we don't have much time, so come up with something that will work for this market." As a result, I decided to focus on the concept of global exposure by calling attention to our massive number of members.

The use of Fella was key in order to keep this ad grounded in the understood realm of comic enthusiasts. The tagline speaks for itself. The style of the ad might not be what you'd expect for a comic book, and thats just the idea. If a comic book enthusiast is used to ads of certain types, he is eventually going to become immune to seeing them. Thus, this ad was designed in a style somewhat different from comic book art itself, with a solid grounding in contemporary design ideas that anyone could relate to.

As a work done in a mere 2 hours (from concept to completion), I am quite happy with the way this turned out. There was some unfortunate confusion as to who would do the design and whatnot, but I think thats all been worked out at this point.

i just love the description that you made for it, the story behind, the concept behind the work- catching the eye of the users so they wont be "immune" to seeing those ads.. anyways, you caught my idea i guess ;).

i love the clean and technical the work has! its great, by putting the object in this "empty" space it catches the eye perfectly, like the page is "blank"

great work, great style, great design, great concept, perfect?!

i guess so! :D

p.s: i didnt know you are :devart:'s creative director!
lol, my brother was creative director in Momentum in Israel which is from the global "Macanne Ericsson" (hoped i spelled that correctly, but i guess i didnt) company.
