ExploreAnywhere DVD Case by TheRyanFord ExploreAnywhere DVD Case by TheRyanFord
This is a project I'm working on for ExploreAnywhere Software, a company which provides security and monitoring software for both home and business use. The client needed design work for DVD cases, in which he's going to place CDs of his product. Additionally, he needed a CD label redesign (I designed the original ones a couple years ago).
The design concept behind this is to make the product feel technologically advanced and superior without alienating the average household mom demographic. So on one hand I needed to attract your super techie who loves Apple gear, and on the other hand I needed to attract the typical parent who wants to monitor his/her child's internet activity. I also couldn't forget about the business demographic. SO, this had to be cool, slightly exciting, and professional.

This is the base template design for a series of roughly 10 products. They'll all follow the same basic design, but have altering features in order to differentiate them from one-another.

Please keep in mind that the identity is not my work.

Thats sweet! Its very simple, but technogoly techno!

I love how you used layer styles (I think) to make seemingly 3d models! I am going to try this sometime! Excellent work!

P.S Its crazy how business like the one you work for sell products to parents, because the programs are soo damn easy to code in VB. And they are making money off of it! I was going to make one for kids that was like an operatering system that had all apps. they would use, and a browser, and all that monitoring stuff. But im too lazy, and I think designing something for a kid would make me crazy after awhile....anywho..patent pending!!

Excellent, excellent, great work!

No layer styles, just straight Photoshop work.

As for the software, I guess I can't comment on how easy it is to code since I'm not a programmer. I'll have to take your word for it. :)

you said "It's also a rounded box, without sharp corners." perhaps the white boxes could have rounded corners that match the boxes corners? i dont know, it may make it feel more uniform. just an idea.

looks awsome overall, dude. i think you hit the wide demographic pretty nicely.

Man, smooth and sweet as ever, which is the usual for you. I love it. I noticed one thing though. Maybe i'm unique in this way, but I have always leaned towards a deep/saturated anchor color in any scheme. I love this, but I'd feel much more at ease with perhaps a darker deeper green in the mix somewhere, even if it was only in minute amounts.

Damn, that sounded arrogant. I didn't mean to preach, it was just meant as a offering of personal tastes.

the cd seems to be the most innovative piece. i'm not sure the grid on the back works out. I'd need to see a flat version.

I hate commenting on such excellent work because I normally have nothing to critique about. =P I really like how you did a lot to a simple design concerning the pattern on the packaging. Your work is always a pleasure to see. Excellent work.

Great idea to use the logo for the halftone pattern. You've certainly met your goal with the design.

Does the white box on the front have a slight grey gradient? Or is my monitor being shitty again? Far be it from me to question your design choices, but perhaps accentuating that gradient a bit would smooth out the extremely high contrast of the Big Whte Box on green.

Why yes, it does have a slight gradient. A lot of people are commenting on how odd the box seems, but really it's supposed to garner attention. It's not negative attention, in my opinion. It just really catches the eye, which is what it should do. I don't want people to queston for a second which product they have, as there are quite a few products which will all use variants of the same package but in different color schemes.

The white box on the front of the case stands out too much.

Other than that, it's sexy as hell.

I do agree with =ipholio, the white box on the front is very clashing. I'm not entirely sure what the best solution would be.. perhaps having the watermark design fade into the box, or continue through the box in a much lighter green?

Great work. The color scheme, typography, and layout is great. One thing though...the front of the box, the grey box containing "Chat Blocker" seems very out of place. Given the smooth background, it really seems to stick out, and out of place. Perhaps you could scrap the boxiness of that, and have more of a swirl of grey coming across the middle of the box, stretching to the left and right sides. Similar to the swirl behind some of the Coca Cola logos in their TV ads, if you know what I'm talking about. Other than that, it's looking very good.

It's really nice, it'd get my attention in a store, but what the hell is a chat blocker? Does it block IM/IRC? Seems kinda redundant, people just shouldn't put the apps on their computers. I know that has nothing to do with you, I'm just saying ... :hmm:

I believe it does what it says: blocks chatting.
From what I know, it can block or record chatting through most IM apps. I actually think it sounds pretty useful. I mean, if I had a mischevious kid I might want to know what he's up to online.

I guess my not having (or liking) kids is a bit of a blind spot, if you can't watch them all the time then that'd be handy being able to still keep tabs on 'em. :)
