FSP Light Preview by TheRyanFord FSP Light Preview by TheRyanFord
Been working on a light weight of FSP. I've worked hard to keep all of the letters the same physical width as the regular weight of FSP, meaning that mixing weights won't result in thinner-looking letters.

Anyway, this is what is done so far. I've yet to finish the numbers and punctuation, and then there are all those non-English characters.

Oh, and the tracking hasn't been adjusted yet, so the letters in this preview are going to appear like they've been tracked out a lot. Ignore that, as it's just a leftover from the regular weight.

The lowercase 'a' looks a bit unbalanced next to 'o' and 'e' because the latter two look slightly wider and open and therefor demand more attention. Other than that it's quite a beautiful typeface. Somehow it reminds me a bit of Futura, though Fonce features humanist elements and generally looks a bit warmer and friendlier.

Beautiful presentation as well.

Wow, you make your own fonts? This is very nice. It makes me think a little of Future Std but still very impressive in its own right. :) I think my favorite part is the clean and fresh look about it. I also like the way the capitalized words look.

This is a huge improvement compared to the regular weight in terms of being a text font. However, I think that the eye of your lc e is optically larger than its counter. Try looking at 'seagulls' for reference. The e and a, when put together, looks unbalanced.

almost bought this today, until i discovered that the letter "Ø" wasnt included :(
i think this is weird since it has "Å" and "Æ", and the other fonce's has "Ø".

Yup the light version.
I can see on myfonts.com that "Æ" is not included:

allso if you write "Æ" in the sample text on the site it doesnt appear on the light version.

This is a great font,

I find if i look at the negative space instead of always just looking at the lines and curves, you can spot more irregularities and parts that don't suit...

This is a really nice balanced font...

I would like to see the "%, #", @" etc as a lot of fonts just dont have them at all...

keep up the good work :)

Are you selling this?

So when you release this will it be priced at $25 or $30-something like the existing Fonce? I usually use a semi-extended light weight of Myriad Pro for design text instead of the trial Fonce due to the kerning issues with it, but I may consider this when you do get it done. As someone who got infuriated just trying to create the simplest of characters for a typeface, I can begin to comprehend how much effort is placed into creating such a high quality font.

P.S What made you decide to change back from the OSF? And don't say the people who figured they were just poorly aligned

This font is just as awesome as its cousin. I like it a lot; it's very lightweight and feathery, which I assume was your aim.

Plus, it's sans serif, which makes me drool.

I, personally would be interested to see this 'light' version in a comparison with the 'regular' fonce. As currently (as far as i can tell) it looks fairly similar.

Nice work though!

If you want to get technical, the light version is 20pts thinner in all dimensions than the regular version. The width of the vertical lines in the regular weight is 80pts, whereas here it's 60pts. And in the ultra-light version (being worked on) it's 40pts. And in the hairline weight, it'll be 20pts. :P

Oh, by the way, are you rich yet? I read that Fonce Sans is one of the top selling fonts on MyFonts? Any clues as to how many copies you've sold?

I'm not rich yet at all, and I don't think I could possibly get rich off a font.
All in all I haven't sold that many copies. Sales for a typeface, however, have been pretty good. I think the biggest challenge is that the people who tend to be familiar with the typeface are on dA, and they tend not to have much money to spend on anything (let alone a typeface).

Well, perhaps not rich, but at least a little heavier in the pocket eh? Also, since you're releasing a new weight/s and therefore offering them as a package, perhaps sales will increase further. I myself am considering buying this font, just because it's so nice. It's rare that a font is as attractive as this, most are usually either unsuitable for body copy or so similar to existing typefaces that only a fool would buy it. Fonce Sans on the other hand is neither of these and I think that's why you've had so much positive feedback on it.

Yes, I've made a bit of money from it, though not as much as I initially hoped. I'm not hoping to get rich off it, mind you. I was just hoping that certain people who said they'd buy it would've actually done so (and there were many). Still, it's certainly been a lesson in font purchases, because at this point I'm feeling I may have made it too pricey. The $35 tag was something I mulled over heavily with a lot of input from others, and it was agreed that it was "middle of the rung" pricing that wasn't too expensive but also didn't cheapen the font. However, I'm coming to realize that fonts are best priced somewhere in the 20's, and I'm going to see about changing the price to be more proper (which is a hassle with myfont.com's admin panel).

At say, $25, I'd be even more persuaded to buy it. However, I think I'd need to find a use for the font before I did so. Buying fonts for the sake of it would probably leave me worse off than I am now!

Looks like it's coming along as nicely as the regular, are you going to be selling this one as well?
