Ryan Ford Logo Redux

Description

Alright, kids. Everybody's comments were much appreciated and rather invaluable to me on my previous logo iteration. The previous concept was meant to establish simplicity, but in the end I think it was too simple and therefore lacked the impact it needed to have, not to mention that it wasn't memorable enough.

So after spending much time most of last night and today illustrating concept after concept in my moleskine, I present to you a new concept which I feel is far more successful.

This logo concept stems from the idea of elegance coupled with typography. As those of you who know me are aware, I am a die-hard type addict. I wanted to convey this even more than ever before, and this idea evolved into a stylish R (for Ryan) coupled with braces (which have a nice elegant curvature to them). From there, I wanted to keep the logo bold and vibrant while further emphasizing the elegance/stylishness (is that a word?). So the enclosure was developed and ligatured to the braces for added uniqueness, and this also helped enforce the essence of a "royal seal" like shape. Later on I added the crown shape for three reasons: 1 my name means "little king, 2 I wanted to further emphasize the regal emblem effect, and 3 it also helps reinforce the "type is king" mentality I have.

This was all drawn out in FontLab. I have to say, for you logo designers out there, FontLab is so much more powerful a vector drawing tool than Illustrator. Everytime I try to draw in Illustrator I end up going back to FontLab. Seriously, check it out.

Lastly, the mark was given a coppery/warm tone (cuz I'm just a warm kinda guy) and coupled with Akzidenz (not gotham anymore).

I hope you are as pleased with the result as I am.
